Youth to get training ahead of Army recruitment rally

The district administration will help the youth aspiring to join the Indian Army by training them and conducting mock physical tests.

“Efforts will be made to create awareness about the army recruitment rally to be held in Bidar district stadium from January 7 to 17. The interested youth will be trained,” said Deputy Commissioner Anurag Tewari.

He said wide publicity would be given to the rally. A committee of government officials and NGOs would implement the training programme. Around 1,500 candidates from North-east Karnataka got selected as soldiers in the army’s general and technical wings in a rally held in Bidar two years ago. “Our target is to double that now,” Mr. Tewari said.

He estimated that at least a third of those selected to the army in these rallies were from Bidar district. “Gram panchayats will help the youth in the villages to register their names online for the rally. Panchayat officials will also distribute publicity materials that give details of the eligibility criteria for entry into the army,” he said.

Mock tests would be conducted in all five taluks of the district with help from the police. Once the promising candidates are selected, they would be trained intensively for two weeks, Mr. Tewari said.

The district stadium, police parade grounds, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University stadium, the Basava Kalyan Development Board stadium, and taluk grounds in Bhalki, Aurad and Humnabad would be utilised for the training, he said.

Details of the programme were decided in a meeting of district officials, NGOs, and officers from the Sainik Welfare Department. Babu Wali, president, District Athletics Association, said that Team Yuva, Shaheen Education Society, and other NGOs would work with the government towards this end.
