Hyderabad-Karnatak may get special status




After nearly two decades of struggle, people of Hyderabad-Karnatak region comprising Gulbarga, Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Bidar, are likely to get special status under Article 371(D) of the Constitution.


The status would entitle them to seek reservation in jobs and education. Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda met Union home minister P Chidambaram in New Delhi on Tuesday, who is reported to have reacted positively to the request.


The proposal will have to be approved by the Union cabinet followed by the state government sending its requirement like funds to the Centre. The same will be placed before Parliament for ratification.
