NHRC orders inquiry into demolition drive in Bidar

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the State Government to conduct an inquiry into the demolition of houses and shops during the road-widening drive in Bidar over the past few years, to see if private property was destroyed illegally.
Admitting a petition by Bidar-based Citizens Rights Protection Committee, a pro bono organisation, the NHRC has directed the district administration to associate the complainant in the inquiry.
Appeal
The committee, in turn, has appealed to the affected people to produce documents proving their ownership of the shops and houses lost.
The date for the hearing has been set for September 27 at the Bidar Deputy Commissioner's office.
